The contrivance of a “sculpted” foyer from the vestigial spaces between four theatres reveals the potential for those volumes to be colonised for theatre and theatricality. Influenced by the still-lives of Giorgio Morandi and the sculpture of Eduardo Chillida, these spaces are atmospheric and poetic, sometimes shadowy, sometimes sunlit. Importantly they connect parts of the city, making new and useful cross routes: attendees and passers-by from Princes Street, Waverley Station, WaverleyBridge and Waverley Steps can all converge in this “city room”.
